Eric Lopez's farm is located in the region of San Antonio Huista, in the mountains of Huehuetenango, Guatemala.
This is the first time the 19 year old Lopez has had his coffee selected and sold on its own. Blessed with high altitude, great varietals and a serious work ethic – his farm is only accessible by foot, it’s a two hour hike from the township, and only on horse or donkey-back can coffee be brought down.
Our export partners in Guatemala, Shared Source, are committed to working with producers on ecological farming practices by reducing the amount of harmful inputs in the growing of coffee. The premiums we pay together to farmers are allowing them to sustainable transition to more organic farming practices, while maintaining a healthy crop, and seeing quality rise.
Eric Lopez received 25% more money for his coffee this past harvest as a result of improving his farming and processing techniques.
Expect a cup with notes of dark chocolate, citrus, and almond.
