Huehuetenango is home to some of the most complex, exquisite coffees in all of the Americas. Located in the north of Guatemala, against the Mexican border, the rugged landscape with steep mountains, red volcanic soil, and the mix of warm air from the flats of Mexico and cool air from the pacific ocean, create excellent growing conditions for specialty coffee.
Located near San Antonio Huista, in the region of Union Cantonil, Erwin’s small output and attention to quality are very apparent. This year he placed 7th in the Cup of Excellence program in Guatemala. This is very signifcant as he is the only producer in the top 10 this year to have submitted his traditional varieties into the competition, rather than exotics, such as Geisha or Pacamara. Big win for bourbon and caturra.
This year’s arrival is very similar to last year, with a huge tropical sweetness of lychee and brown sugar.
